Print DESCRIPTION:

The CR9440 series is our line of magnetically operated limit or proximity switches utilized where physical contact between moving parts is impossible or undesirable. Their enclosures meet the ratings for CSA Class I Groups C & D and Class II Groups F & G hazardous locations.

The CR9440-QS2 Magnetector Limit Switch incorporates an encapsulated snap-action contact element. This contact will close when placed in a magnetic field.

The CR9440-QST2 Traic Magnetic Proximity Switch has a N.O. Triac Circuit which becomes conducting when the switch is placed in a magnetic field. The circuit reverts to non-conducting when the magnetic field is sufficiently reduced or removed.

APPLICATIONS:

The CR9440 series may be used for a variety of applications such as mine hoists, elevators, machine tools, cranes, gates and conveyors. These devices are ideally suited for use in harsh and hazardous environments where dust, corrosive agents and explosive dusts and gases are present.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Easy to maintain-no electrical or mechanical adjustments necessary.
  • Compact design - the CR9440-QS2 Magnetector Limit Switch is only 4-9/16" long X 3/4" diameter.
  • CSA Approved for hazardous location applications.
  • Reliability-epoxy encapsulation protects against moisture, dust and corrosive agents.
  • Fast operation - 1 millisecond operating time up to 400 Hz.
  • Low temperature operation - down to -65°C for the CR9440-QS2 and -40°C for the CR9440-QST2.
  • General Electric CR115X2 compatible alternative.
  • Quantity discounts available.

APPLICATION INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL DATA

The typical technical operating performance of the CR9440-QS2 and the QST2 are provided in the following Tables and Graphs for application guidance. Due to the various mounting configurations and the possibility for magnetic interference (current carrying conductors, steel or iron surfaces) it is recommended that a mock-up of each application be tested prior to final installation.

MOUNTING MAGNETECTORS:
CR9440-QS2 and the QST2 can be mounted using 1/2" or 1" non magnetic conduit fittings. CR9440-QM2A and QM3A magnets are mounted using U-clamps, while the QM4A and QM5A magnets will mount using 1" conduit fittings.

For each application find the maximum distance at which the switch will "just close"(J-max), then adjust the magnet to pass the switch at a distance of j-max/1.5 or less.(See Figure 1) Similarly, find the minimum distance the magnet must be withdrawn which will cause the switch to "just-open"(J-min), then adjust the magnet to withdraw a distance of 1.5 x j-min or greater.(See Figure 1)

For the most satisfactory operation, it is recommended that the long axis of the switch and the magnet be parallel, and the center plane of the magnet coincide with the center plane of the switch element.(See Figure 2)

CAUTION

The Triac will fire when 210 volts is applied across its load terminals and remain conducting for the remainder of any half-cycle in which such a transient occurs. Most solenoids and normal contactors will not pass such brief half-cycle signals on to their controlled devices.
