Print DESCRIPTION:

The CR9440-QSR1 Short Range Speed Gate Relay and the CR9440-QLR1 Long Range Speed Gate Relay are magnetically operated devices utilized where physical contact between moving parts is impossible or undesirable.

The unit's electronic circuit latches to a closed state when exposed to a magnetic field of sufficient strength. The unit will remain conducting until the circuit is interrupted, which removes the holding current. The magnetic field is normally supplied by one or a set of CR9440-QM4A magnets

APPLICATIONS:

These CR9440 devices have generally been used in conjunction with safety monitors required for mine hoist controls. However, these CR9440 devices will function satisfactorily within any application which requires a latching pilot device.

Selection of short range or long range gates is determined by the distance between the signal magnet and the gate.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Easy to maintain-no electrical or mechanical adjustments necessary.
  • Reliability - epoxy encapsulation protects against moisture, dust and corrosive agents.
  • Fast operation - 1 millisecond operating time up to 400Hz.
  • Broad operating temperature range- -65° C to 125° C.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:

The typical operating performance is outlined in Table 1 for application guidance. Due to the various configurations and the possibility for magnetic interference (current carrying conductors, steel or iron surfaces) it is recommended that a mock-up of each application be tested prior to final installations.

MOUNTING SPEED GATES:

The speed gate relays are normally used in mine hoist circuits and are, therefore, required to be mounted on mine shaft walls. The standard method of mounting is to slide the unit into a cooper or PVC tube, where they remain in a vertical position. The tube is secured to the shaft wall and should be sized as follows:

CR9440-QSR1 Speed Gate — 1 inch tube
CR9440-QLR1 Speed Gate — 2 inch tube

Caution - The operation of the speed gate may be affected by close proximity to current carrying conductors due to positive or negative magnetic fields.

Caution - Speed Gate Relays should not be subjected to high voltages as damage to their semiconductor
components will occur.

Mounting Magnets - The magnets should be mounted vertically (multiple combinations should have like poles
together) on the hoist or conveyance.

Caution - Steelwork behind or close to the signal magnet will distort the magnetic field pattern and effect the
operating distances. Generally steelwork should be 6 inches from the magnet.
